Purpose: Specimen bottles and jars are used for the collection and preservation of animal and plant specimens. There are over 90 specifications for specimen bottles and more than 60 for specimen jars. These are the two types of glass instruments with the most diverse specifications. Therefore, when using specimen bottles (or jars), it is essential to choose the appropriate specification. Before use, clean the specimen bottle (or jar), place the specimen inside, and to maintain the original shape of the specimen, fix it at the beginning of specimen preparation, or fix the specimen on a glass slide in advance (if it is a small specimen or if the specimen's color is too light to see clearly, a fixative can be used to attach the specimen to a colored glass slide). However, make sure to wait until the fixative dries before placing it into the bottle, and then hang it on the hook of the specimen bottle. Fill the bottle with the prepared preservative solution until it completely covers the specimen or exceeds it, then tightly cap the bottle. Seal the edge of the cap with materials such as paraffin, gypsum, or sealing wax. If a specimen jar is to be used, tie and secure the jar and its cap with wax thread before sealing them.
